Friday Flashback

This Friday it’s going back to November of 2008. My buddy Jordan and I hit the road at 3 AM to go see our first MIAMI DOLPHINS game live in St. Louis. We brought our homemade Phin Hard Hats (made by Jordan) and the orange face-paint. We were trying to decide on what to do so we went with the Braveheart theme. We had a lot of PHIN fans stop us on the way to get pictures with us. This gave us the good idea that we need to make some dolphins colored kilts, and do full body paint this fall when we head to Cleveland for the Dolphins vs Browns game on my Birthday weekend.

Shadow Creek: By Joy Fielding

I was asked when I gave my last book review to put my rating first, this way people can see the rating without reading the spoilers below.

Image

I would rate this book at 4.5/5, it was a easy read, some twists through out and it ended! Other books I have read left me hanging at the end wondering what happens next. It was almost a 5/5 but at some parts I got lost in the moment of where things were taking place, and the beginning was a little boring at first.

My review! (SPOILERS BELOW)

This book was about a woman (Valarie), her daughter (Brianne), Val’s friends (Melissa and James) and Val’s ex husband’s fiance (Jennifer.) Jennifer was picking up Brianne to take her to a hotel/spa with her dad (Ethan). He was late like usual, and so Val volunteered to take them to the place. Things got out of control when they had to stay the night and share the hotel room with Jennifer and Brianne. During this time there were murders going around (mostly the killing of elderly people in the nearby area.) Brianne was a stuck up snob to her mom, Val has issues of being nice to the “slut” Jennifer (whom she caught cheating with her Husband in a flashback), and Melissa and James were there to help Val celebrate her 40th birthday. Things went haywire when Brianne sneaked out to meet up with her boyfriend and got caught naked in the open woods by a couple of park rangers. This caused a big fight between everyone at the hotel and they were asked to leave, (in a previous chapter, Val ran into an old friend from high school, Gary, and he said they could all stay with him down at the campsite, since they had a few tents to spare.) This is when Brianne went out again to meet her boyfriend, got lost in the woods after a car accident and eventually was found by the murderers. Throughout the book the author did do a great job of making me think Brianne was the killer, but she wasn’t. The killers were a young male and female that killed an elderly couple and were staying in their cottage for now. They brought Brianne back to the cottage, (The male (who used Multiple names) was dressed as a park ranger and helped her to the cottage, he also wanted to sleep with her). Nikki the female killer (again not her real name) wanted to kill her since she was jealous. Val, James, Melissa and Jennifer went on a search to find Brianne after they realized she was missing. The finally found the cottage, and were invited in by Nikki. When they realized they Nikki was lying and not who she said they were, the male came into the room (Brianne was locked in the trunk of the car) and was ready to kill all 4 of them. Val managed to get the gun from Nikki and shot the male dead. She swooped in and saved the day. Brianne swore she’d behave better and be nicer to her mom, Val and Jennifer at this point seemed to become good friends and Ethan never did show up. When they all got back home and dropped Jennifer off at Ethan’s apartment, they noticed one of Brianne’s friends car outside and finally realized why he didn’t show up that weekend, as he was sleeping with the friend. This is where the book ended, realizing that we knew what would happen next.

Like I said it was 4.5/5 I think it could have been a little better, but it was fast to read and easy.

Until next month….

Backwards Triathlon…Also the 40 day Challenge

This morning I decided to do a longer version of my backward Tri’s. Usually in the past times I have done it I would run 2 miles, bike for 30 minutes and then swim some laps. This time I ran a 5K (3.1 miles), then I went into the Cycling Room and did 45 minutes of fast-pace sprinting on the bike and followed that by a quick 10 lap swim (.5K). The running time I finished in 26:35 for the 3.1 mile run and the .5K swim I got done in 10:53. I was OK with my times, when I was swimming I felt faster and thought I’d be closer to 10 minutes or under, but under 11 was fine with me.

Tomorrow starts the 40 day countdown to the triathlon. I am hoping to be down a few more pounds by then, so I am doing a 40 day challenge. I am going to give up bread (so sandwiches, buns, pancakes  waffles, bagels, etc..) and I am also going to give up the fried food for the next 40 days. It will be my version of “lent” I guess. I love bread and fried food so this will be a challenge, but hopefully the results will be great. The only issue I might have will be those darn drunken nights out of ordering pizza at 2 am, or getting fried green beans. I think I will be able to manage, but just in case wish me luck.

Friday Flashback!

Back in April, 2012, I went with some friends to a Cedar Rapids Titans Arena Football game. The game was fun to watch, the stadium however was not fit for the game. The kicker kept hitting the ceiling almost on the field goal attempts. Shortly before halftime they cheerleaders came through out section looking for 2 dancers for a dance off. My friends were egging me on to do it, but I was only 1 beer in and working on my second. The wife was off getting number 3. After the peer pressure I decided to do it and down my 2nd beer on my way to the entrance. I met my competitor and he kind of looked like a dancer already. I wasn’t worried though…I’m BAD BOBBY! Anyways, the guy asked if he could take his shirt of during the dance, they agreed if that was all he took off. I knew I wasn’t taking mine off and so I had to think of something to top that. I was hoping for a Michael Jackson song, but got just a random song. I did however bust out some Billie Jean moves, but that isn’t what won it for me. See I was dancing to the stands where my friends were at. The other guy went to the other half to sane for them. The announcer, Kathryn Foxx radio lady, told em to go to that side. I turned around and saw the guy with his legs wide and dancing, so I said screw that I ran, dove underneath his legs and jumped up to dance right in front of him. That is about the time the crown went nuts. He did then took his shirt off, but that wasn’t beating my under the legs move. I do have a video of it, and am trying to get a better video of it. But here is the picture of the end, raising the hand of the winner! Image

40 Days…well in 4 days…(Comment Please!!)

My first ever triathlon is in 40 days. This coming Monday. I am only down 8 pounds and was hoping to be at 170 by the TRI, and I’m currently at 192. I will be happy if I can weigh in at 180 the day of.

I am thinking of changing my diet for the next 40 days. I am going to cut out bread and fried food. I think the only hard part will be for my wife who cooks us dinner and not making bread stuff. Also the occasional drunken night out ordering fried food and a pizza at 2am will be a little hard. Anyways its my plan to do.

Now WordPress followers and friends, I need to replace my lunch. Each day I eat the same meal. Usually a jelly sandwich (need a substitute for that), 100 calorie cracker, light yogurt, 100 calorie pack of almonds/walnuts, and then a fruit and vegetable. Fruits usually consists of either an apple, clementine, pear, peach and the veggie consists of a while red pepper, carrots or a cucumber. Most of lunch is fine, just need to replace the bread…IDEAS???

Also I work part time at the YMCA day Carr so I get free breakfast, which is usually toast, pancakes, waffles, bagel, or cereal…What can I replace breakfast with?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

A Few days in ONE post…

Friday:

So I forgot to do my Friday Flashback. Let’s take a stroll back to the triple 7’s (07-07-07) This was my (girlfriend at the time) and my 3 year anniversary. I planed a trip to Chicago. I lied and say my Aunt won 2 tickets to a dinner cruise, so she wouldn’t wonder why I purchased these tickets. The surprise all most got spoiled a few times. The night before we were at Uptown Friday Nights listening to a band, and she went up to my Aunt to thank her for the tickets, and my aunt was like “what tickets…oh… ya Those tickets”. Then on our way to Chicago her dad sent he a congrats text (was supposed to send it to me) but mistakenly sent it to her. Luckily he just got a phone and was testing the picture sharing texts, so was able to play it off that way. The day was great, sight seeing, shopping and the dinner cruise. During the cruise I waited for her to go to the restroom  ran up to request a anniversary dance and gave him my camera to video tape it. Funny thing was that she thought I was drunk when I was talking to her, but I proposed…and she did say Yes (otherwise I probably wouldn’t be writing about this). It was one of my greatest nights and probably why we like to go to Chicago a lot. It also ended with fireworks which were perfect since she realized she liked me on the 4th of July back in 2004.

Saturday night/Early Sunday morning

I got an e-mail about Harley (our Foster dog) that there was some people interested in him. We have only had him a week, and would have thought we would have had him longer than that. It made the wife and I realize that we weren’t ready to give him up. We are what they call “Failed Fosters” as in that moment we decided to adopt him. He gets along with Murphy (most of the time) and even in the short week that we have had him he has became part of our family. So please Welcome our newest member of the family, Harley!

This morning I woke up 15 minute later than I usually do for the gym. I hurried my way out the door to get to the gym. I got in a very vigorous 10 minute warm up on the Elliptical, and then did my chest lifts. I wasn’t sure if it was the being “late” than made me bust my ass, but it was a great workout. I need to kick it into gear as well, I have about 47 days until my triathlon. I need to start working on my running outdoors and hopefully by May I can do a swim at the beach to get used to colder water and the dark gross water as well. I did get in 20 miles on the bike and I just hope the day of the Tri there is no WIND!

That pretty much sums up the weekend!

Few new things over the past few days

For starters, let’s say the Melissa and I are now foster parents to this sweet little beagle named Harley. He is up for adoption, so please contact me if interested.

Next, the gym has failed me…and I have failed the gym. I went to the gym Tuesday morning at 4:45 AM, there was about 20-30 cars in the parking lot, but the building lights were off. I waited until 5:15 and by that time I wouldn’t have time to get in my workout so I headed home. I did however get back to the gym that afternoon for a 2 mile run, Biceps/Triceps/Abs lifting and a 15 minute swim. Then this morning I had my alarm set for 4:30 like usual and woke up at 5:15 AM, so I failed to make it to the gym this morning. Good news is that Wednesdays are already 2-a-days so I already planned to go back at 5:00 PM tonight for a few mile run, and a 45 minute kick-ass cycling class.

Few quick updates…I am 52 days away from my first Triathlon  so hopefully I can get outside more soon with running, biking, and hopefully some swimming.

Foster Parents…for Dogs

This weekend the wife and I decided to too if we could become Foster Parents. We met with the Last Hope Animal Shelter, they had a beagle named Harley. We have a Beagle/Basset mix that we weren’t sure if he would like the other dog or not. We got Harley Saturday around noon and took him to our place. Murphy and him did a lot of sniffing and at first Murphy was a little iffy about having him here. Most of the time the dogs were good but both, especially Murphy gets jealous over attention we give the opposite dog. They don’t share spots well and like children they have to have the same toy the other dog is playing with even if at first they didn’t want it. We take Harley back today around 3 and will decide if we want to foster him long term until we can find him a home, if we do we will get him again next Saturday.

Some photos of the weekend. (Murphy is the Big one, and Harley is the Little one)

Friday Flashback….A Night to…NOT….remember!

It’s another Friday Flashback where BAD BOBBY was at it again…

This is the story of the night I will never….remember…well remember fully that is…

This was from June 29th, 2012. It was a Friday night and was planned to be a great night…

I biked out to Jerseys to meet up with a few people for some 2 for 1 beers (Giant Beers that is) I think I had 4 of them, plus a tall boy for the entry form to win a bicycle. I headed down to Uptown Friday Nights. (Uptown Friday Nights is at Green Square Park and they have a band from 5-8, it’s a good time. By the time I got to the park rain was coming down, i went into a parking garage to see all the event being taken down. BUMMER cause I was excited to listen to the band, dance and have fun. Well i had my father in law come pick me up and take me home. My wife and a few of her friends were going to a bar called Chucks, so I went there with them. I enjoyed a pitcher of beer. (Of I should say I started around 2:00 pm.) A friend I work with picked me up around 8:00 pm from Chucks and we went downtown to Dublin they had their 2 for 1 special. I switched to vodka lemonades. This is where things get kind of fuzzy and most/rest of the story if what I remember people telling me.

We had a few drinks at Dublin, played some pool and then went over to the Field House. I was doing my usual, which is dancing on the dance floor. Supposedly I fell down and when the bouncer came to tell me to have a seat and relax I got mad and left. I went back to Dublin and fell out of my chair so my friends decided it was time I better go. They had me go outside. Somehow I called my wife who was at a different bar about 4 blocks away. I guess I walked over there to say hello. The best decision of the night was when I got there I told them I need a cab, so she called a cab for me. It took me about 15 minutes to get into the cab, and to finally shut the cab door. The next part is really fuzzy, parts I only remember because of items I found in my pocket. I must of told the cab I only had $10 on me and he must have kicked me out $10 from the bar. From there I walked (I knew what street I was on because the next morning I found a listing for a house in my pocket.) At the time Melissa and I were looking for a house. Anyways I remember walking behind all the nursing homes, and I was scared shitless because I thought someone was coming after me. I finally got a hold of my mom to pick me up at the gas station to take me home as I don’t think I would have made it by walking. Woke up the next morning not remember a thing until I talked to a few friends who filled me in on the details from above. it was a crazy night, a bad night, and a night that I never plan to repeat….hopefully

Here is the photo of the start of the night I did not remember!
