My Goal

Back in 2012 I had my hair the longest I have ever got. Total of 11 inches for a donation. It felt good to do, and that why I keep growing my hair out. This year last time it was measures I was currently at 8 inches. 10 inches is what’s needed to donate, my goal 15 inches before I donate again.

Now, everyone can agree cancer sucks, but when it happens to little kids that is just something that always makes me sad. Kids shouldn’t going through chemo, being in pain, losing their hair etc. They should be outside playing, reading or creating their own stories, coloring and overall enjoying life.

Ever since the first time I donated my hair, I decided every few years to regrow it out to donate. This year I have a small challenge, but might be hard to do. Kids going through chemo and losing their hair might be a scary time, might be something they don’t want to do. I have always wanted to find a little girl that due to cancer will be losing her hair. I’d love to pay to take her to a nice salon to have her hair cut right. Also at this time I would cut mine all the way off to donate as well. It would be a way of showing that if a wig would be needed I’m there to help. I just feel it would be a heart warming experience. My hope is that I would never have to do this, I wish cancer and diseases for little kids never happened. Whether this would become reality or not, I will always be growing and donating my hair. I know a lot of people don’t like long hair on guys, I like it on myself knowing that in the end it will go to a good cause.

Below is my before and after for my first donation, and will be excited to do again most likely in August.

Fun Fact Friday (Sort of…)

This week I was looking for a Fun Fact that had to do with Daddy/Daughters, as this weekend while the wife is out of town we will have a great Daddy Daughter weekend.  I was unable to find a fun fact, but did find this article.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/ariellecalderon/reasons-theres-no-bond-quite-like-a-father-daughter-relat#.ub9ePNLJe

In the article above, there are 29 points and here is my top favorite that I agree with. Most are  that will happen into the future and I can’t wait to do all of them.

2. He taught you how to ride your first bike.
6. Dad gave you kisses on your chubby cheeks because he couldn’t resist your cuteness.
7. And comforted you when you had trouble falling asleep.
11. Or dressing up in Marvel costumes.
23. He picked you up during the father-daughter dance at weddings.

It made me realize all the great times I have had with Stella over the past year and can’t wait for many many more!

Throwback Thursday

image

This year, I was excited when I saw who the Dolphins were playing. I was thinking, Hey looks like we will be in St Louis again to play the Rams. I was thinking my buddy Jordan would have to go to STL again. NOPE! The damn Rams had to make this the year to move back to LA. Oh well, the above photo of Jordan and I at our first NFL game. Dolphins won 16-12. This was back in 2008. It was a great game, we had lots of fans both Miami and St Louis digging the Braveheart Face paint style.

Top Five Tuesday

This week’s edition of my Top Five for Tuesday will be my Top Five things I’d like to so before I die. Some are possible, some may be impossible.

5. Skydiving- I’d like to take the adventure to the high road, and jump out of a plane. I think it would just be a big rush, fun and overall a fantastic experience.

image

4. Travel to Space- Now this may be impossible, but I’m still  young you never know what will happen in the next 10-20-30 years. Maybe their will be a way to travel to Space, and I would sure be number one on the list. I have always been fascinated with space, and would love to see Earth from a different view.

image

3. Coast to Coast Bicycle Ride- I love bicycling, and someday plan to take the summer of fly out to California and load my future touring bike up and hit the open road. Nothing but biking, camping, seeing new places and having a great time. This will be many years down the road as I would need to save some money and really get it mapped out,  but biking across the USA would be awesome!

image

2. Write a book- I haven’t decided if I want to write a fiction or nonfiction book, but someday want to write a book. I think I got a creative enough mind to make it something great. Maybe a retirement job, but is something I plan to do someday. Maybe this will be something I write during my bicycle tour across the USA.

image

1. Family Trip throughout the US- I think it would be fun to take Stella and any other future  kids on a trip to each state in America. It would be fun to find the most popular landmarks in each state to see. It would be cool to rent an RV and hit multiple states at once, but it will be something we will do over time.

Music Monday- We are the World

Today’s music Monday song will be the classic song, We Are The World. This is such a great song, if only people would follow the lyrics

” We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me”

We need to start giving more, we need to start caring more about the future. We all need to make better choices, help teach children to save this planet we live on. Children are the future, and we have the choice as parents, grandparents, and Earthlings to make a difference in their life. So start being positive, find new ways to give back, volunteering can go a long way!

Dog Park

It’s been a LONG time since the Boys and I went to the Dog Park. Decided to surprise them today with a Sunday Morning trip. As I got them loaded in the van, aka Big Betsy, this is what they looked like.

Ready to leave without me, luckily I still had the keys. As we were waiting to back out, this is where the boys decided to sit. Murphy right behind me, and Harley all the way back in the third row.

Fun Fact Friday

Well since I have a run tomorrow, here is a Running Fun Fact.

“The fastest mile was run by Moroccan, Hitcham El Guerrouj in 3:43:13 in 1999. Interestingly enough, the second fastest record holder is the 2nd place winner of the same race.”

The other day I thought my 6:59 mile was a fast run, I can’t even imagine running that fast for one mile. It would be awesome if I could get my running speed average closer to 7-7:30 minute miles. Oh well, just keep running I guess. Tomorow I just have the 5k goal of beating 25:54 as that was the time I had last year at this Amana Freezer 5k. It was a lot warmer last year, but maybe the cold will make me run faster!

Throwback Thursday Tattoo

Back in 2012 I got my first tattoo, wanted it to be something that means a lot, and something I enjoy, so of course it was a Bicycle on the back of my calf and the side the word RIDE in bicycle chain.

image

It was a strange feeling but now I believe it’s time to get the next ink.

I was thinking of doing a Star for Stella, but have thoughts of waiting till she is older do draw me a Star and get that tattooed on me.

Next would of course be time to show my Hawkeyes love. I have looked at multiple designs and so far I am going to do something similar to this with a few modifications.

image

I am thinking right shoulder, but location TBD. I saw a similar one that has the Herky outlined in Hawkeye gold, so that might be incorporated. I have the flag not only for the USA, but for my grandpa Boppy, has he was a beloved fan of this country and the Hawkeyes. Things might change, but this is what I am looking to do, again with a fee modifications.

Work Out Wedneaday

Well I have got my registration all set and ready to go for the Pigman Sprint Triathlon. This will be number 4.

Here is the past three years times.
2013 my first year

2014- Year 2 shaved off 5 minutes

image

Last Year, still a better time, but could have done better.

image

This year I have made it a goal of doing a lot more swimming, minimum of twice a week. So far its been good, need to get better at breathing during the swim, but its a work on progress. My other goal is to get the end 5k run down the 24-25 minutes that I usually do when I just run 5ks. Also I need to get the transition between swim and bike faster, so will be practicing that come spring.

This is a great first time Triathlon for anyone to TRI!
