RAGBRAI 2014 (Preparation Begins)

Image

Well, the RAGBRAI (www.ragbrai.com) ROUTE for 2014 was announce on Saturday. I had a guess of it being north, and I did guess Emmetsburg and Waverly, BUT that was all I had right. 1 key thing I like to hear *2nd Flattest route* Also, I think the day from Forest City to Mason City will be a AWESOME DAY! It’s the shortest day on RAGBRAI I have ever done…36 miles. I know it’s not a challenge to ride 36 miles, but that;s why I train for miles before RAGBRAI. I usually get in minimum 1000 miles before RAGBRAI, but to me RAGBRAI is not a race, not a competition and I don’t feel I am there to prove anything…it’s my VACATION, which means, biking, drinking, biking, drinking, camping, drinking, dancing and oh…some drinking as well 😀  It’s probably the best week I look forward to every year, no e-mails, no work, and to quote Bob Marley I’ll be “Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing, ‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.”” The only thing I miss when I am on RAGBRAI is my wife and my 2 dogs 🙂

This year will also be my 10th years of doing RAGBRAI and I am excited. I have met a lot of fun people on RAGBRAI (Team Black Betty, Team Fohty, Team Xtreme, and many more) But am glad to call my self a Boozehound from Team Boozehound! We like to Ride Right and Party All Night!

Most of all it’s fun to hang out with the great team!

BOOK PUB

This year one of my New Years Resolution’s was to read a book each month. Well I failed (sort of)… In January i created a group called BOOK PUB. This was a book club group with a twist, we read a book each month and then meet at a local bar or “pub” to talk about the books with a few cocktails. The first 5 months went great but the summer got away from me as I would rather be outside…biking…than reading. So I missed out on BOOK PUB for June, July, August and September.

I did catch up though and have read a lot of book this end of Fall beginning with Winter.

Year in Review:
1. The Shack by William P Young (January)
2. Picking up Strangers by Bob Morgan (February)
3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (March)
4. Shadow Creek by Joy Fielding (April)
5. Don’t Go by Lisa Scottoline (May)
6. The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (October)
7. Lost: Endangered Species by Cathy Hapka (October)
8. Lost: Secret Identity by Cathy Hapka (November)
9. Lone Wold by Jodi Picoult (November)
10. Lost: Signs of Life by Cathy Hapka (November)
11. A Lonely Dog on Christmas by Patrick Yearly (December)
12. Daddy’s Girl by Lisa Scottoline (December…In Progress)

CRABFART Ride!

Yesterday was a great day. First outside bike ride of the year, and a fun one too. CRABFART or Cedar Rapids Alternative to Brr Frozen Ass Road Tour, is a fun party bicycle ride that I have done the past few years in warm, cold and snowy weather. It was nice getting out of the gym (even though I did do a 90 minute cycling class in the morning before the ride) and doing a bicycle ride outside. After having a few beers at BAD BOBBY’s BAR we headed to City Beat, Omalleys, La Cantina, Parlor City, The Shack Tavern and a few other bars. There were quite a bit of bikers out and ran into people I new at each bar. It was an overall great ride, cold…but not that cold. I think I’ll be getting Black Betty out more often now if I want to beat the 2012 record of 2500 miles and reach 3K this year!
